BMW introduced the second generation X4, which will debut early next month at the Geneva Motor Show. And if the exterior of the car is not very different from the current model, the interior has improved noticeably, which will help the Bavarians to fight against rivals in the highly competitive segment.
One of the main visual changes is the new radiator grille of the X4 2019 model. But, despite the similar aesthetics, the dimensions of the model have changed: the length of the crossover coupe is now 4752 mm (+81 mm), the width – 1918 mm (+37 mm), the height – 1621 mm (-3 mm). The wheelbase of the X4 is estimated at 2864 mm – here the gain was 54 mm. Inside, the rear passengers received an additional 25 mm of legroom, and the luggage space increased by 25 liters – now the trunk has 525 liters. The company also emphasizes that despite the growth in size, the coefficient of aerodynamic drag of the vehicle decreased by 10% (0.3). The weight of the second generation of the model fell by 50 kg.
The new BMW X4 is equipped with a wide range of standard equipment, including LED lights. Infotainment features include a standard 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation and BMW’s handy iDrive rotary controller. A head-up display is optional, and owners can also connect their X4s to Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. Available driver-assist tech includes: adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, rear cross traffic alert, and lane keep assist.
Under the hood, the BMW X4 xDrive30i will come with a 248-horsepower, twin-scroll turbo four-cylinder. X4 buyers with feet made of lead will likely be interested in the M40i model which boasts 355-horsepower out of a similarly turbocharged straight-six. That car will get from zero to 60 mph in just 4.6 seconds.
Powering the new X4 in global markets will be different gasoline and diesel engines. North American consumers will have to settle for two models when the X4 goes on sale in July. These are the xDrive30i, with a 252hp 2.0-liter turbo, and the M40i, with a 360hp 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six.
