The wait is over: after the images leakage of the new Audi A1 in the Network, Audi apparently decided not to wait until June 20, and completely declassified the new generation of the A1 Sportback. The company calls it “the ideal companion for an urban lifestyle,” and considering it stretches out to just 13.2 feet (4.03 meters) long, 5.7 feet (1.74 meters) wide, and 4.6 feet high (1.4 meters), it’s hard to argue. But don’t let its stout size fool you.

The design of the the new Audi A1 is somewhat reminiscent of the Ur-Quattro and the Sport Quattro, but, of course, this is not a rally car (at least for now). However, its sloped roofline and accenting black roof give it an aggressive look compared to its predecessor. The flat C pillar accentuates the small hatchback’s sharp angles, while the optional S Line offers features like larger air intakes, a slim vent below the hoodline, and a larger rear wing.

The wheels can be 15-, 16- or 17-inches, depending on the finish. The last, largest option available in either black or platinum gray is also part of the S Line. As the car grew not only in size, but also the wheelbase (it added 90 mm and now is equal to 2560 mm), the new A1 also improved cargo space, up a whole 2.3 cubic feet over the outgoing model, bringing total capacity with the rear sets erect to 11.8 cubic feet. Fold the rear seats down flat, and that number improves to 38.5 cubic feet.

There are permutations for some of the engines. The base will be a three-cylinder 1.0-liter engine (25 TFSI, 95 hp and 175 Nm), there is a slightly more powerful version of the same engine (30 TFSI, 116 hp and 200 Nm). If you want something “sharper”, there is a 1.5-liter four-cylinder (35 TFSI, 150 hp and 250 Nm) and a top version with a 2.0-liter turbo engine (40 TFSI, 200 liters. s and 320 Nm). Three-cylinder engines go either with a six-speed manual transmission, or with a S-Tronic with two clutches, the “four” – only with the S-Tronic. As you can see, there was no place in the Audi A1 motor line for diesel engines, but next year the model should acquire the S1 version, the power of which is estimated at 250 hp.

Everything looks good in the cabin. In addition to more modern materials already in the database (there are only three options for finishing – Basic, Advanced and the same version of S Line), there is a digital assembly with a diagonal of 10.25 inches, but a full-fledged Audi Virtual Cockpit is offered as an option. Infotainment system MMI Touch with 8.8-inch or 10.1-inch screen can also be charged for a surcharge. And, of course, Audi A1 will have many security systems and various assistants. For example, there will be a warning system for leaving the lane, preventing collisions with the function of automatic emergency braking, as well as adaptive cruise control.
