Audi, revealed its new Q8 flagship crossover SUV, BMW decided to one-up its competition by pulling off the wraps off its redesigned BMW X5 midsize crossover SUV. Now the Bavarian SUV has more modern look and uses more advanced technology.
From now on, BMW X5 will have the CLAR platform, which already has formed the basis of the X7, as well as the new 5 and 7-series. Dimensions of the crossover are as followed: length – 4922 mm (+36 mm to the predecessor), width – 1972 mm (+34 mm), height – 1773 mm (+11 mm), wheelbase increased to 2975 mm (+42 mm).
In terms of design, the 2019 BMW X5 gets a large BMW kidney grille with single-piece surround. The X5 will offer rear steering, remote engine start, hill-ascent and -descent control, and a factory hitch for towing. Adaptive LED headlights are standard, and laser lights are an option. At the rear, the car now has a two-section door that will help you load smaller things faster, as an option, both doors can open and close automatically.
In the interior of the new X5 there is a pair of 12.3-inch screens – one is used as a dashboard, the second one is needed to control the infotainment system. The front passengers have electrically adjustable heated seats, massage and ventilation are an option. Customers can also upgrade to glass controls for the switchgear and a Bowers & Wilkins stereo that has 20 speakers and a 1,500-watt output.
If you need to carry more people in the crossover, you can order a three-row X5 from December. In this car, the second row of seats will be equipped with an electric drive for adjusting, tilting and folding backs.
Buyers can choose between the X5 xDrive 40i with a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six that produces 335 horsepower and can reach 60 miles per hour in 5.3 seconds. The other alternative is the X5 xDrive 50i with a 4.4-liter V8 making 456 hp that can reach 60 mph in 4.6 seconds. Both powertrains come with an eight-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive. A locking rear differential is also an option.
Despite growing concerns about diesel engines, BMW is not going to abandon these engines yet. The real standout is the performance-oriented X5 M50d which has a quad-turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine with 400 PS (294 kW / 394 hp) and 760 Nm (560 lb-ft) of torque. TIt allows the crossover to run from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 5.2 seconds and hit a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).
In the future, the model will have a hybrid configuration, as well as a “charged” version of the X5 M. But there is no need to wait for a purely electric model. In any case, not in this generation.
